this review is from: Fatima (ON DEMAND)

Fatima is a filmed written and directed by Ricardo Lobo. Its center character is an educated Iraqi woman who returns home to pursue her career and passion: taking care or nursing prekindergartan children. Her optimism soon fades though. Iraq is a different place now. There is death and destruction everyday in the streets. The Americans are there and so is Iraqi anger. I had a problem with this film. While Lobo does an excellent job of bringing us the everyday trials and tribulations of city life for Iraqis, I was left somewhat distant. Maybe it's because the acting is less than excellent or perhaps it was the choppy direction. Either way the story makes up for this. Fatima soon descends into despair and hopelessness. Her descision to escape her fate puts into motion a series of events that can only have one outcome: more death! But does it really have to be that way? I still give it three stars.
