Film Info
A documentary about one of the most singular French artists and the Parisian neighborhood he helped make famous, TOULOUSE-LAUTREC AND MONTMARTRE uses many techniques of the traditional historical documentary. Through images of Toulouse-Lautrec's paintings, archival photographs, and interviews with art scholars, the documentary examines the artist's obsession with the bohemian neighborhood and its inhabitants, many of whom became minor celebrities due to his work. Toulouse-Lautrec's work has become integral to the popular vision of Paris in the late 19th century, and has therefore had a cultural impact far beyond the period of its initial completion. TOULOUSE-LAUTREC examines the unusual figure - who was so incredibly different from his Impressionist contemporaries - and the part of Paris that inspired him.
