In conjunction with FirstGlance Films, IndiePix is pleased to offer this compilation DVD of popular films from the 2006 Philadelphia and Hollywood festivals.
DUST OF THE EARTH: What is consciousness and is it possible to replicate it? Combining various scientific and philosophical perspectives, DUST OF THE EARTH is a documentary that examines the human mind, the artificial mind, and the power of creation. Intercut with a dramatic sequence of mystical intrigue, the film explores the Kabbalistic legend of the golem of Prague and its relationship to the philosophical quandries of the modern world.
SMART CARD: In the not-too-distant future, every transaction is done through one system, Smart Card. A businessman, Robert Sharpe, is riding home from a long day at work. On the way home his computer navigator makes a request to stop by the local gas station to pick up a couple of household items and to refuel his vehicle. While purchasing the items he encounters a vagrant, Ziggy, who's warning everyone of the conspiracy they are participating in by using one system to track all their personal information. Unconvinced, Mr. Sharpe talks to the Bum only to have his Smart Card stolen from him putting him in the uncharacteristic position of being on the outside looking in. He is not able to enter his automobile, talk on the phone, or communicate even with a gas station clerk. His only way back to society is to take matters into his own hands. He's advised to try a newly created Smart Device, so an event like this will never happen again. But Mr. Sharpe's decision to try the new Smart Implant Chip is the wrong one, as he will soon find out.
I KILLED ZOE DAY: Wyatt and Billy, both 21 and best friends since childhood, wake up after a wild night out partying and they can't remember anything. No sooner do they realize that they're in famous pop star Zoe Day's Soho apartment, than they come across her body shot dead in a pool of blood. As the two friends discover various clues throughout the apartment, we relive with them vivid but fragmented flashbacks of what happened last night -- a struggle ending in murder. Neither Wyatt nor Billy can remember who was responsible for what, but they both know that Zoe Day hired them to do something devious, and that a gun went off. They turn to accusing each other, but with the discovery of one final clue, we piece the entire night back together in a new and complete timeline of an unexpected chain of events.
THE BIRTHDAY BOY: Today's the day. It's finally arrived. At 6:30 this morning, Joey is 5 years old. That's right, 5 years old, a boy, not a baby ever again. He's finally reached his manhood. No longer will Joey have to take care of, and for that matter, be a part of the baby civilization ever again. From here on out when he hears a baby cry, or wine, or moan, he wont be able to understand what they are saying anymore than his parents do. Joey's life as a baby is now erased from his memory forever. Or is it?
ALL SOULDS DAY: Alice is having the best birthday a girl could ask for with a magical new friend, but her mother is on a journey all her own.
RIGHT OF PASSAGE: Trapped and alone in the basement of the mysterious crumbling House of Ma-Chi, Jasper meets the Computoaster, a well-meaning and quirky mechanical info-center on legs. It calculates answers by shunting beads and popping iconic replies on cards. They get off to a shaky start when Jasper asks the wrong question, but they get past that and it warns Jasper of his impending encounter with the Snapper, an industrial strength set of dentures on a stalk guarding the passage out. Jasper finds that its grin is not about friendship, and he narrowly avoids getting chomped. In a nutty dialogue of words and pop-up cards the 'toaster helps Jasper outwit the Snapper, and it becomes comically apparent that the 'toaster had a score to settle.
