One of the key issues in the build up to the 2004 Presidential election was the Vietnam service of Democratic challenger John Kerry. Republicans called Kerry's service into question on numerous occasions, casting doubts over his record in the military. Director George Butler (PUMPING IRON) aims to put the record straight with this exploratory documentary, which takes a detailed look into Kerry's activities in Vietnam. With an impressive range of material at his disposal, Butler draws on personal letters from Kerry, camcorder footage, and his journal, to tell the tale. After highlighting Kerry's courage amidst the difficult terrain, Butler focuses on the senator's post-Vietnam anti-war activism, which saw him publicly berate President Richard Nixon. Based on the book TOUR OF DUTY by Douglas Brinkley, this is a great way to discover the truth behind the many rumors and half-truths surrounding the Kerry campaign.
