Trapped and alone in the basement of the mysterious crumbling House of Ma-Chi, Jasper meets the Computoaster, a well-meaning and quirky mechanical info-center on legs. It calculates answers by shunting beads and popping iconic replies on cards. They get off to a shaky start when Jasper asks the wrong question, but they get past that and it warns Jasper of his impending encounter with the Snapper, an industrial strength set of dentures on a stalk guarding the passage out. Jasper finds that its grin is not about friendship, and he narrowly avoids getting chomped. In a nutty dialogue of words and pop-up cards the 'toaster helps Jasper outwit the Snapper, and it becomes comically apparent that the 'toaster had a score to settle.
