Lili and the Baobab
(DVD)

DIRECTED BY - Chantal Richard

Backordered

A freelance photographer Lili (Romane Bohringer) has been hired to document new infastructures in her town's sister community in Sengal. Once there, she forms an intuitive bond with Aminata, an unmarried and childless woman like her, whose quiet independence mirrors Lili's own. By the time Lili returns to France, something has shifted within her and she looks at her life through new eyes. As she searches for a way to remain connected to her sister village, Lili is led back to her friendship. When Aminata gives birth to a fatherless baby boy and is threatened with expulsion from her village, Lili needs to use sheer determination and compassion to change local customs, help her friend, and find her own path in the process.

the ochre plains of Africa or the forested seaside of Normandy.

Lili's story is a distinctly modern one, suggesting themes of economic

migration, colonialism and cultural dividesbut subtly, gently. This is a

filmmaker who has confidence in her audience, trusting us to interpret what we
