Mathilde (Sandrine Kiberlain) is an unhappily married woman whose dissatisfaction manifests itself in kleptomania, fainting spells, and sexual frigidity. All attempts at conventional therapy fail until she meets a mysterious doctor (Francois Berleand) who suggests alternative methods such as feng shui and hypnosis. But as Mathilde's mental state improves, she experiences a sexual awakening that threatens her physician husband Nico (Vincent Lindon). This intense psychological drama from acclaimed French director Benoit Jacquot (THE SINGLE GIRL) offers a gripping exploration of the sexual politics of marriage.
