The Last Days of Pompeii

DIRECTED BY - Mario Caserini

The story of the final hours in the lives of a statesman, a pagan priest, a witch, a beautiful woman, and a beggar before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, THE LAST DAYS OF POMPEII is one of the great Italian silent epics. As a tableaux film, which uses a title card to explain the scene shown following it, usually comprised of single static shot, causing it to resemble an elaborate stage play, it was one of the last of its kind. Still, THE LAST DAYS OF POMPEII is a thrilling experience and its apex, a stirring fight in the gladiatorial arena while Vesuvius begins its titanic eruption, remains as impressive as ever.
