Rolf De Heer

Rolf De Heer is a critically acclaimed Australian film director. Although he has written and directed seven films since 1984 he gained the most critical acclaim as well as most controversy with Bad Boy Bubby. He was born in Holland in 1951, and after spending part of his childhood in Sumatra, Indonesia his family arrived in Australia at the age of eight. Incident at Raven's Gate (1987) was the most notable of his early films, a sci-fi, mystery thriller which led to a flood of offers from Hollywood, but which has been rarely seen around world. Hollywood resisted his next film, Dingo (1990), with Colin Friels and jazz legend Miles Davis in his only film role. A favourite theme of De Heers films is childhood and the way children see the world, this can be clearly seen in such films as Bad Boy Bubby and the critically acclaimed The Quiet Room.
