Marcello Zappatore

Marcello Zappatore was born in Lecce, Italy in 1976. He started playing guitar when he was 13 years old.

- He studied with: Frank Gambale (1997), Brett Garsed (2003), Massimo Varini (2005), Luca Colombo (2005), Pietro Nobile (2006), Paul Gilbert (2008) and Steve Vai (2009).

- He played in 2002 with Alex Damiani.

- He played with Kiss of Death, recording the cd ‘Inferno Inc.’ in 2004 and playing as supporting band for Sepultura in 2002.

- In May 2005, he started playing live and in studio along with Après la Classe (www.apreslaclasse.it), sharing the stage with many important people like Chuck Berry and recording guitar for the CD ‘Luna Park’ (On the Road, 2007).

- In January of 2004 Marcello Zappatore won the Emergenza Chitarre contest (by 'Chitarre' Magazine and 'Playgame Music') as one of the ten most talented new Italian guitar players; 'Playgame Music' published in 2004 a cd with the ten winners' songs.

- He played on Arezzo Wave’s main stage with Après la Classe in 2005

- In 2007, he played along with Après La Classe at 'Primo Maggio 2007' in Rome, the biggest stage in Italy, in front of 700,000 people, broadcasted live by Rai3.

- In October 2003 Italian MTV broadcast a short movie on Marcello Zappatore's day-to-day life.

- In 2005 he starred in the short movie ''In religioso disagio'', which won the staff prize on Milano Film Festival.

- He is very involved in musical instruction, teaching guitar both in private lessons and in music schools; he writes lessons for Jazzitalia and many other websites (http://www.jazzitalia.net/lezioni/marcellozappatore/indicemarcellozappatore.asp); in 2005 he published his own first instructional DVD ‘’L’improvvisazione sulla progressione di accordi’’ [improvisation on chords progression] produced by sevenotes.com;

- In 2006, he played in Albany and Switzerland.

- In 2007, he played at Auschwitz (Krakow, Poland) in an event in memory of victims of the Holocaust.

- He endorses and uses Di Marzio pickups, Madcat amplifiers, Essetipicks handcrafted picks and Arte-Sound handcrafted amplifiers.

- In June 2008 Marcello was teaching and playing his own music at University of Lecce, invited by Ferdinando Boero, the biologist who discovered a jellyfish and named it after Frank Zappa, becoming Zappa's friend.

- In November 2008, Marcello played in Rome with Grazia Negro, Roy Paci and Frank London for the presentation of the Italian movie ‘’SE CHIUDI GLI OCCHI’’ by Lisa Romano.

- In May 2009, Marcello's CD 'LA CILIEGINA SULLA PORTA' is out (ed. Note Volanti).

- In September 2009 the TV network 'Italia Uno' broadcasted Marcello Zappatore playing, during the format 'Talent1'.

- In October and November 2010 he starred in the movie about himself called 'W ZAPPATORE' (Apnea Film, director Maci Verdesca) with great actors such as Sandra Milo, Guia Jelo and Monica Nappo.

- In June 2011, the movie W ZAPPATORE wins the BROOKLYN FILM FESTIVAL at New York as BEST FEATURE FILM.
