Massimiliano Verdesca

Born in Lecce, Apulia, in 1976, Massimiliano Verdesca began his working career in advertising, as a copywriter for D’Adda, Lorenzini, Vigorelli, BDDO, one of the most young and dynamic agencies in Italy. Here, he worked for clients such as Cartoon Network and Pepsi. After a couple of years he leaft Milan to move to New York, where he enrolled at the New York Film Academy to study Film Making.

Once back in Italy, he collaborated on different projects for several production companies (h Films; The Family; Fargo; Apnea Film). His first commercial was for the launch of MTV’s digital platform channel, a job for which he was shortlisted at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. He also directed commercials for Banca Intesa, Inter Milan Football Club, MediaWorld, The Club, Pangea, Bonduelle and Accademia di Comunicazione.

In 2005 he co-produced the movie "Onde". In the meantime, he started writing his first short movie project, "In Religioso Disagio", the story of a young guitarist in his hometown of Lecce. The film, shot and produced by Massimiliano, was chosen to take part at the Rotterdam International Film Festival the following year. Its success gained the film entry to several other festivals: Milano Film Festival, Italy; Arcipelago International Short Film Festival, Italy; Kolkata International Film Festival, India; River's Edge Film Festival, U.S.A; Reelheart Toronto Film Festival, Canada.

The short movie is part of a wider project that brings to the screen the life and wonderful world of Marcello Zappatore. Initially the main character of a "digital portrait" created and broadcast by MTV in 2004, the project also included a specially designed book of stills from the video material as well as the feature length movie "W Zappatore".
