Stuart Ross

Stuart Ross inventively fuses together elements of science and art to creatively construct electric/kinetic sculpture. He is an inventor, a teacher of earth science, psychics and biology, a social commentator, a scientist, an artist and a street vendor. Beginning his journey early on, Stuart Ross entered the 1986 Duracell scholarship competition at age 15. The international contest required applicants to design and build a battery-powered device. Ross creation of an electrically coded card that opened a motorized door (similar to todays hotel key cards) was rewarded with accolades that led to numerous television interviews and a college scholarship from Duracell. Whilst at college (SUNY Albany), Ross began to experiment with installation art, transforming ordinary residences, taverns, and event halls into mood provoking environments that captivated both students and faculty alike. Returning to New York City after traveling through over 30 countries, he fathered Ross Creations, a workshop and art studio in Greenwich Village. New York City is the launching pad for much of what fuels Ross's fire today. It is the electricity and energy of the city that ultimately transforms into the creation of his art. The daft relationship with the environment he surrounds himself in creates a chemistry that is most definitely kinetic. His experiences growing up in Queens and teaching in the New York City public high school system for over a decade have added an element of cultural flavor to his pieces. It is also in the classroom where he has found inspiration through the art of teaching. He is able to mold the minds of his students much like that of his sculptures. Ross's art is an incredible synthesis of mediums and materials. His mark on society will easily be developed into a firm level of permanence in each spectator's mind.
