Ed Gaughan

Ed is a critically acclaimed, award winning actor, comedian, writer, director and Jazz Musician who has worked extensively in Film and TV, Theatre, the London Comedy circuit and innumerable festivals including the Edinburgh fringe, Glastonbury and the Porto Jazz Festival. Along with Andrew Buckley, Ed is a founder member of Flywheel Productions and is an associate artist at BAC. Ed and Andrew’s first show as Flywheel - “Radioplay”- a one man show for Ed in which he portrayed over thirty different characters - was a smash hit with comedy critics and audiences alike at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. “Radioplay” subsequently toured Great Britain taking in venues such as Warwick Arts Centre, Manchester Royal Exchange, Bristol Old Vic, Penzance Acorn, Exeter Phoenix, Torrington Plough and BAC London. The show has since been reimagined to include a live Jazz score for the London International Jazz festival featuring Christine Tobin (BBC Jazz Vocalist of the year 2008). This critically acclaimed production enjoyed a sell out three week run & rave reviews at the Lyric Hammersmith in October 2008. Ed and Andrew’s follow up to “Radioplay” was “Saints and Superheroes” which began life as a short sketch at The Edinburgh Festival. Working with double Olivier award winner Hamish McColl from the Rightsize (Play what I wrote, Do you come here often) the show was developed into a full length play delighting critics and audiences alike at venues such as Warwick Arts Centre, Manchester Royal Exchange and BAC London. Along with Director Nick Whitfield and Andrew Buckley, Ed wrote and starred in “Skeletons” a feature film for Forward Films. Co-starring legendary British actor Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter) and Paprika Steen (Festen, dancer in the dark), the film is scheduled for cinema release in July 2010 distributed by Soda pictures. Prior to it’s UK release, Skeletons will be shown at Gothenburg & Rotterdam Film festivals. In 2008 Ed shot the BBC sitcom “Clone” alongside Johnathan Pryce (Brazil, Glengarry Glenross) and Mark Gatiss (League of Gentlemen). Produced by Ash Atalla (the office) and Written by Adam Chase (Friends) Ed is an extremely skilled character actor at home in both comic and dramatic roles, with a extensive range of accents and dialects at his disposal. He has also worked as a director and comedy consultant on many BAC shows including Perrier winner Will Adamsdale’s Fringe first winning “The Receipt”. Ed and Andrew have been writing together since 2000. Their first commissioned short film in 2001 – “Steve Austin investigates Spiderman” won them the award for best screenplay at the Landcrab Film festival. Ed is also a founder member of Wolf and Water Arts Company – based in North Devon the company works in Film, Theatre, Music & Dance with socially excluded groups including Children with life threatening illnesses, “at risk” young people, people with mental health issues, people in conflict situations, adults with learning disabilities and offenders. The company work across Devon, the UK & Europe (in particular Northern Ireland, Norway & the former Yugoslavia).
