Arnaud Desplechin
Born in 1960 in Roubaix, Arnaud Desplechin graduated from the French film school IDHEC in 1984 and went on to work as the cameraman on films by Eric Rochant and Nico Papatakis. He made his first film, the short feature LA VIE DES MORTS (THE LIFE OF THE DEAD) in 1991 and made a name for himself with his prize-winning feature debut LA SENTINELLE the following year. With MY SEX LIFE he confirmed his position alongside Olivier Assayas, Leos Carax and Claire Denis as one of the finest directors of the newest French New Wave. In 2000, he premiered his first English language film, ESTHER KAHN, starring Summer Phoenix, Ian Holm and Fabrice Desplechin (Arnaud’s brother, who plays Ivan in MY SEX LIFE) in competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
