Ms. Brandt, as a director, producer, and writer for film and TV and theater, is the recipient of nine EMMIES, a WGA award, a Peabody, an ACT, several CINDIES, numerous Golden Eagles, and awards from American Women in Radio and Television, the Houston Film Festival, Sundance, and a number of film festivals.. She has wide experience directing and producing/line producing in locations all over the U.S., Europe and Asia. She has worked in all formats from 35mm to Digital Beta, and at many budget levels. She is the Creator/Executive Producer as well as writer/director of a major new series for PBS, THE CRUCIBLE OF THE MILLENNIUM, broadcast on December 31, 2001 and in early 2002, which has won five awards for excellence, and rebroadcast in January of 2004. She has directed and co-produced a low budget feature film, EVERYONES DEPRESSED, based on the award-winning screenplay by Jan Balakian.. The film will be screened as part of the pretigious NewFilmmakers series at the Anthology Film Archives on February 8, 2006. In the theater, she directed FIFI by Susan Batson at HOME and The Actors Studio; THE MYSTERY OF ANNA O, at the John Houseman; MIRIAM and BAPISTE and DOUBLE FEATURE at the Actors Studio, CHARLIES WEDDING DAY at American Place and the Powerhouse Theatre; WAKE UP, LANA DEE in Woodstock and at the West Bank; THE COTTAGE at the Emelin Theater and Gorkis LOWER DEPTHS at The Actors Studio and the Kampnagel Theatre in Germany. She directed BENEFITS OF DOUBT with Tony Lo Bianco at the Actors Studio and most recently the critically acclaimed production of HANDSHAKE at the Miranda Theater. She recently directed a play she co-wrote, TWO BARE ARMS, at the York Theatre. She produced a series of two-hour movies based on true events in the history of slavery (AMERICAN PLAYHOUSE)DENMARK VESEYS REBELLION with Yaphet Kotto, Ned Beatty and Donald Moffat; SOLOMON NORTHUPS ODYSSEY with Avery Brooks, John Saxon and Mason Adams; CHARLOTTE FORTENS MISSION with Melba Moore and SIMPLE JUSTICE, with George Grizzard, Sam Jackson, and Peter Francis James, broadcast as part of the American Experience series, winner, top award at the Houston Film Festival and a Humanitas prize}. A dramatic film she directed, wrote and produced, THE SUPERLATIVE HORSE, won more than 30 awards, and was seen on NBC and PBS and has been widely distributed. Recently, she produced the dramatic segments of RALPH ELLISON: An American Journey (PBS) which was featured at the Sundance Festival 2002. Her short film, ELEGY, was named one of the best shorts of the last 20 years by the Telly Awards. Among her other notable credits are: THE NUTCRACKER with Baryshnikov for CBS, which has been an annual Christmas feature on PBS as well as the No. 1 best-selling videocassette in its category; FYI WITH HAL LINDEN, which she created, executive produced, wrote and codirected for ABC and which won five EMMIES in four years; CHRISTMAS WITH FLICKA with Frederica Von Stade (Great Performances, PBS); VEGETABLE SOUP, a 76-part dramatic series designed to prevent racism in children, the first series to run simultaneously on NBC and public television (creator, Executive Producer, writer and director of numerous segments), and HIGH FEATHER, a 10-part dramatic series (NBC, PBS) that won EMMIES for series and direction. She is a graduate of Vassar College and holds a Masters Degree from the Columbia University. She is a member of the playwright/directors workshop at The Actors Studio.
