St. Patrick's Day Special

March 11, 2008 - The St. Patrick's Day Special is a collection of films from and about Ireland. THE MAGDALENE SISTERS is based on real events that took place in Ireland from the 1960s until 1996 when an estimated 30,000 young women, considered by their families to have committed sexual sins, were sent away from their homes to earn penitence working in profit-making laundries. Irish director Neil Jordan's THE COMPANY OF WOLVES is a psychologically themed retelling of Little Red Riding Hood from a Freudian and slightly feminist angle. BORSTAL BOYS is acclaimed Irish theater director Peter Sheridan and brother of film director Jim Sheridan makes his feature directorial debut with an adaptation of playwright, novelist, and political rogue Brendan Behan’s autobiographical tale.
