Film historian Virginia Wright Wexman has described Antonioni approach as that of a "postreligious Marxist and existentialist intellectual."

Watch 'Le Amiche', one of his early works for its radical style of presenting a series of apparently disconnected events or 'L'avventura' that brought him success in the international cinema community. With 'La notte' and 'L'eclisse', Antonioni completed his trilogy that deals with the alienation of man within the modern world.
