IndiePix, Celebrating Independent Film

Hot Docs Collection

This week is the 16th Annual Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto. IndieWire reports that this year, Hot Docs received a record 1,948 submissions this year and are screening 171 films from 39 countries. Clearly documentary filmmaking is continuing to grow in popularity worldwide and prove itself to be a powerful tool to inform as well as entertain. This collection features a number of films that have shown at Hot Docs in previous years, including Summerchild, the beautiful and lyrical doc about a young Russian girl in a children's home who is taken in by a Finnish family for a summer across the border. Summerchild screened at Hot Docs in 2008 and also won the President's Award at Full Frame. Here you'll also find films by Jennifer Baichwal (Manufactured Landscapes), Kirby Dick (Thie Film Is Not Yet Rated, Derrida) and Gary Hustwit (Helvetica) all of whom are premiering their latest films this week at Hot Docs.
