Cinema Eye 2009 Winners
Cinema Eye Winners were announced this past Sunday at the TimesCenter in New York and brought together luminaries of nonfiction filmmaking to honor and celebrate some of the best films of 2008. Award presenters included a bevy of nonfiction notables including Albert Maysles (Gimme Shelter), D.A. Pennebaker (Don't Look Back) and experimental artist/musician Laurie Anderson. Our collection this week highlights some of the winners of 2009.
Man On Wire took home three Cinema Eyes for Nonfiction Feature Filmmaking, Outstanding Achievement in Editing, and Outstanding Achievement in Production.
Up The Yangtze won the Audience Choice Award and for Outstanding Achievement in a Debut Feature. And Encounters At The End Of The World won for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography.
You may note that the biggest winner of the evening, Waltz With Bashir, which won awards for Graphic Design and Animation, Music Composition, Outstanding International Feature, and Outstanding Direction, is not included in this collection. This film is still in theatres and has not yet been made available for DVD release.
But let's not forget all the great films that were nominated for Cinema Eye Honors. A selection of the nominees that are currently available on DVD are included below.
